The Son can make you free from the Romans 7 condition

Also notice how Paul says sin is working in his members in Romans 7:23 (KJV) But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. Paul got this type of language from Jesus, as Jesus talked about sin being like offensive body parts, or like sinful “members” of the body that needs be removed in Matthew 5:27-30 (KJV) 27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell." Again notice Paul spoke of the same here in Colossians 3:5-10 (KJV) 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; (body of sin) 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” (body of Christ) So putting to death sin in our lives by the power of God's Spirit is needful.

Well, I've tried to reason with you out of the scriptures, but there comes a point when I begin to repeat myself over and over again, so no point in continuing this conversation. Hopefully you will come to see by the grace of God that sin and Death are the enemy, not God's holy commandments. Peace and God bless

The hyper grace movement tries to use Romans 7 as an sort of justification for their ongoing sinful behavior, but like Peter said, the unlearned and unstable struggle to understand what Paul was saying in his writings. Here is a post I made about the Romans 7 condition---->>>>https://www.christforums.org/forum/christian-community/morality-and-laws/62298-the-son-can-make-you-free-from-the-romans-7-condition
  4. I have come across a grave error in my internet travels, and that error is in thinking that the law of God is a curse, and is the same Law as the law of sin and death. But Paul makes clear in Romans 7:7 that the law of God is not sin. So what is the law of sin and death? I compare the law of sin and death to be much like the law of gravity; we are all firstborn under it naturally by reason of Adams original sin. Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” As it is also written in Romans 5:19 “For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners,” So as it is also written, by nature we were all once the children of wrath Ephesians 2:3 . And as the judgement was by one man’s sin unto condemnation (Romans 5:16) for the wages of sin is death= thus being under the law of sin and death. We know this condemnation for sin was already in the world before the Law of Moses, because sin and death already reigned in the world. Romans 5:13 Notice we are told death reigned Romans 5:14 “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.” That is an important clue in understanding what it means to be under the law of sin and death. When you are under the law of sin you are made a servant of sin, like sin being the Devils desire ruling over you ,as it is written in Romans 5:21 “That as sin hath reigned unto death…” Many people try to use Romans 7 as an excuse and as a sort of justification for their ongoing sin, even saying Paul was still struggling with sin. But one needs to keep in mind what Paul said to his audience in Romans 6:19 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh:” Paul referred to “the manner of men” same as the manner of the beast nature in 1 Corinthians 15:32. What Paul was showing in Romans 7 was the struggle and the enmity between the law of the flesh and the law of the Spirit, as these 2 spirits and 2 natures are contrary to one another. Notice in Romans 7 we are shown 2 laws, one is the law of sin and death, the other is the law of God. We already saw in Romans 7:7 that the law of God is not sin, now notice Paul confirms in verse 13 the law of God is not death either. Romans 7:12-25 "Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. In the above we see the 2 laws (flesh vs. Spirit) warring against one another. But are we to remain in this state of captivity and bondage being under the law of sin and death? Paul gives us the answer to this as well in Romans 6 and 8. In Romans 8:1-4 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” What we see in the above is walking after the flesh is serving sin and also =being under the law of sin and death. Thus when we are born again of the Spirit we should no longer be walking in the lusts of the flesh. Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” So it is the Spirit of Christ (law of the Spirit of Life) that makes us free from the first nature that desires to walk in the flesh and serve sin. Now some might say this does not mean we are set free from sin and death, just that we are set free from the law of God. But that is not what is being said above by Paul. To what benefit would it be to be only set free from a holy law, and not be made free from sin and death? All that would amount to is a bunch of lawless sinners. Besides that, the Gentiles were never even under the Law of Moses to begin with, so how can you be set free from a law that you were never even under? Makes no sense. But the law that both Jews and Gentiles are firstborn under, is the law of sin and death. Romans 3:9 “What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;” So again, we see need to be made free from the Romans 7 condition of serving the lusts of the flesh and sin. And Paul shows in Romans 6 this is what Christ came to perform in us. Romans 6 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. So hopefully you will see in this that it is sin you truly need to be made free from, because a servant of sin abides not in the house forever. Peace and God bless, Mark

That is why we must be born again of God's Spirit and given a new nature in Christ, which serves righteousness and not sin. I've found while debating these hyper grace followers that they believe if you remove the law you also remove sin, but all that makes for is a bunch of "lawless" sinners. Jesus said those who commit sin are servants of sin, and a servant of sin abides not in the house forever. But those who the Son makes free, they shall be free indeed. It is that sin nature we need to be made free from, not the law. Believing in Jesus Christ is also believing in the Truth, and as Jesus said the Truth shall make you free. The Son of God is the Word of God, and God's Word is the way, the truth and the Life. We are not made free from sin by removing the law, we are made free from sin by the putting to death of that old man of sin nature through the power of Christ's resurrection. And if you are truly made free by the power of God's Spirit then you will no longer serve sin. Those who commit sin are of the Devil, those who walk in the Spirit of righteousness are of God. You shall know a tree by his fruit. So if the deceiver has convinced you the law is the problem rather than sin, then you have believed the lies of the Devil; and no lie is of the Truth. We cannot make ourselves free by keeping the law, it is the Son of God who can make us free. Believing in the words of God is believing in Jesus Christ.

You have a misunderstanding about the law and sin; which is why you see the law as the problem rather than sin. Here is a thread I posted on this topic which may help you to understand what Paul was saying---->>>>>https://www.christforums.org/forum/christian-community/covenant-theology/61821-the-curse-of-the-law There is an easy way to spot a false grace message. The true grace message says under God's grace sin shall not have dominion over you. The false grace message says under God's grace sin still has dominion over you. See the opposite message? Death reigns through sin. But God's grace reigns through righteousness. So though God's grace and imputed righteousness is a gift, if God's grace is active in your life by the Spirit, then you will no longer be serving the lusts of the flesh and sin. 1 Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

This is a common pattern I saw in hyper grace followers doctrine, as I also saw in your posts from the start. Hyper grace followers do not speak evil of sin, or even speak out against sin, but they do speak evil of God's law. There it is again, God's commands do not tempt anyone to sin. (James 1:13) Not true, most all claim to be grace teachers, but you will know them by their fruit. Joseph Prince is serving the "unrighteous mammon" and preaches a health, wealth, and prosperity doctrine which serves the lusts and desires of the flesh. You cannot serve 2 masters. I know his false doctrine well, as I fought against IT for over a year at another forum where this hyper grace movement had already over run the forum. This is another error of the hyper grace doctrine, they believe that after being born again of the Spirit we still serve both sin and righteousness, both the old man nature and the new man nature, both the flesh and the Spirit. If you live after the flesh you shall die. (Romans 8:13) Also the old man and his sin nature should be dead and gone, that is, if you are truly raised up a new man in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Again we see the error of the hyper grace doctrine which speaks evil of the law that was given by God, but does not speak evil of sin. This is also how I know this doctrine is not of God's Spirit. [h=1]James 1:13-14(KJV)[/h] 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Also no one of God's Spirit would speak evil of God's law...... Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

    The curse of the law

No, that's not what he said. He said sin was in the world even before the law, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Romans 5:13 "For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law." So the curse of sin was in the world even before the law. The law just exposed the sin that was already there, Jesus did the same.... John 15:22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin. Just as the law was given to Moses by the Spirit of Christ... Galatians 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. So again, the law itself was not the curse, sin is; as the law is not sin (Romans 7:7). The law just exposed sin for what it is, and the law also condemns sin to death; which is why Paul called it the ministration of condemnation and death.

I fully understand God's grace and His imputed righteousness by the Spirit, but God's grace and imputed righteousness is given for the obedience of the faith; it is not given so we can be disobedient and used as a license to sin. The new hyper grace movement are the ones who are "another gospel" and who are trampling under foot the Son of God by preaching a sin all you want and still be saved doctrine. Jesus did not come to die for our sins so we can continue to keep on sinning. Jesus Christ came to take our sins upon himself and become a sacrifice for our sins, to forgive us our past sins, and also by His death and resurrection to make us free from sins influence in our lives by the Spirit of grace. (this is the good news of the gospel) It is those who willfully sin after receiving the spirit of grace that are going into destruction, because they have fallen away from the faith, and even deny the Lord by their own sinful behavior and evil works. [h=1]Hebrews 10:26-31(KJV)[/h] 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

    The curse of the law

I would have to disagree, because it is sin that produced the curse of death. This curse brought on by sin is shown in the beginning in Genesis, as this curse by sin came before the law of Moses. Genesis 2:17 "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Notice the mention of the curse in Genesis 3.... [h=1]Genesis 3:14-17(KJV)[/h] 14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;" I believe the Tree of knowledge, to know good from evil, was given to us as a sign of the natural law. Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (like the tree of knowledge to know good from evil) When we ate from the tree of the law (knowledge to know good from evil) we then were made aware of our sins, and then our eyes were opened to sin, and we then saw our own nakedness; just like Adam and Eve. That knowledge of what we once thought was good for us became death to us because of sin, just as the Lord said; the day you eat of it, surely you shall die. (being already dead in our trespasses) Romans 6:23;"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." It was not the fruit of the tree of knowledge that was death to us, just as the law of God is not sin or death.( Romans 7:7) But rather it was the sinful nature that worked in our members by the desires of the flesh that produced fruit unto death. Romans 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. *Note the law of sin and death is not the same as the law of God. Just as by the first Adam sin entered into the world and death by sin, we also are all firstborn flesh and under the law of sin and death. Romans 3:9 (for all have sinned) Romans 7:5;"For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, (law of sin) did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death." So even though we once thought the natural law was life to us, we being evil by nature were deceived, and the natural law (the knowledge to know good from evil) became death to us by reason of our own sins. For without the law sin was dead. Romans 7:11;"For sin taking occassion by the commandment, decieved me, and by it slew me." Just as the serpent by the lie (sin) took occasion by Gods commandment, and deceived woman and man, and therefore the sin of disobeying the commandment (law of God) brought forth the wage of sin, which is death. But thanks be to God for the mercy He showed us in the spiritual Tree of Life, which is offered to all of us who believe in the remission of our sins through the offering of Jesus Christ our Lord; the very Word of Life made flesh. Genesis 3:22 “And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

The above statement is also a sign of this new hyper grace movement and of the false doctrines of men, like with the t.v. evangelist Joseph Prince. This concept of continuing in sin, but at the same time declaring yourself as "perfect" in Christ is rooted in the doctrine of men called Dualism. I call it a doctrine of a "disassociated identity" because the person who is under this strong delusion believes their constant sinning in the flesh while in this world has no effect on their already obtained "spiritual perfection". So they try to mentally disassociate themselves from their sinful behavior, and believe they will not be held accountable for it because they are already "spiritually perfect". I've had people of this movement tell me a practicing homosexual is still in Christ, even though they continue in their sins. One guy told me, if that practicing homosexual died he would still be saved because he was already made perfect in Christ. This of course is foolishness because a practicing homosexual who never repented of his sinful behavior was never in Christ by the Spirit to begin with. This hyper grace movement is a fast growing deception which is pleasing to sinners because they believe they can sin all they want and still be saved, even while they commit abominations like homosexuality. I would advise you stay away from these doctrines as they are not of God.

You need to be careful here because some of your posts sound like a man made doctrine called Antinomianism, which is "The doctrine or belief that the Gospel frees Christians from required obedience to any law," Sin is also defined by unrighteousness, as all unrighteousness is sin.(Romans 6:13,1 John 5:17) And we are told the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.(1 Corinthians 6:9) Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Romans 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 2 Thessalonians 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. God's word's are the truth, and if you abide in Christ you will also abide in His words. Also by God's Word and words all men shall be judged, for the Father has committed all judgment unto His Son.(John 5:22) 2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Again the greatest commandment is to Love the Lord thy God..... John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. But either with the law, or without the law, all men shall be Judged by God's Word.... Romans 2:5-16(KJV) 5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds: 7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. 12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

If you are truly in Christ then you won't keep on sinning. (1 John 3:9, 1 John 5:18) Sin is never ok with God, as sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2, Hebrews 7:26) for in Him there is no darkness, and in Him there is no sin.( 1 John 1:5, 1 John 3:5) So you have to be careful about these new wave grace doctrines which basically teach that the grace of God gives you a license to sin. That is what we are warned of in Jude 1:4 "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." Sin is not of faith, and if you are truly under God's grace, then sin shall not have dominion over your life.

Yes, the keeping of the law does not make us righteous, God does. But I would add to clarify, that keeping the commands of God is not unrighteousness. When we are born again of the Spirit the righteousness of the law will be fulfilled in us. And the righteousness of the law goes back to the point of the OP, which is Love fulfills the righteousness of the law. [h=1]Romans 8:1-4(KJV)[/h] 8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Here is an easy way to look at it.... [h=1]Romans 5:19(KJV)[/h] 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. The above verse shows the 2 natures, the first is flesh in Adam vs. the nature of God's Spirit in Christ. We did not make ourselves, just as we do not give birth to ourselves. So if we are firstborn of the flesh in Adam we are also born into that sin nature. This is why we must be born again. But if we did not make ourselves the first time, nor give birth to ourselves the first time, then why think we can give birth or make ourselves the second time. We can't. Jesus said either make the tree good and his fruit good, or else make the tree evil and his fruit evil; for a tree is known by his fruit. So who makes trees? The trees don't make themselves, and so we like trees are made by our Maker. So like trees, if you are made a sinner in Adam you will produce sinful fruit unto death. But if you are made the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ you will also produce righteous fruit unto Life. For the tree is known by his fruit.
