Everything God does is for his glory. Our purpose is to glorify him.

It didn't atone for sin. It was only a picture of the sacrifice Jesus Christ would make. Offering animal sacrifices was a way of expressing faith that God would take away sins by the perfect sacrifice.

Sin can be atoned for by the shedding of the blood of a perfect sacrifice.

It means to acknowledge your sins, repent of them, and trust in Jesus for salvation.

I means to acknowledge God's supremacy in all areas of our lives. I believe it is summed up in 1 Corinthians 10:31, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."...

The difference between Christians and evolutionists is not different beliefs about science but different beliefs about history. We believe the earth was created by God; they believe it was formed as a result of natural forces. Anyone accepting their historical belief must believe that life evolved over millions of years....

Society has devolved to fewer and fewer morals / ethics. Satan is getting a stronger and stronger foothold in this world. He's out to destroy marriage and family -- everything that God has instituted satan is out to destroy.

It's getting to be that when a person Tries to live by Biblical morals / ethics, they stand out like a 'sore thumb'. But we Are told that 'we' are to be a light in a darkened world. And every so often we Will suffer a 'sore thumb' or a 'stubbed toe'. People will simply observe how we react To that sore thumb or stubbed toe.

There Have been retired couples who have been widowed and fall in love and want to live their older years together in an intimate way. Only trouble is that government restricts them to either or's retirement income. That happened to a sister in law -- she Had been living on his S. S. which was okay, but she still had to work. Then She retired and Assumed she would still get hers and continue with his. Didn't...

Every year the stores start putting out Christmas stuff earlier and earlier, it is ridiculous. I usually wait till after Christmas, to buy decorations or gift sets if I buy them at all, it all goes on sale for really cheap. This year my family discussed not doing the presents, no one really needs anything....

To a degree, if only because All Saints Day follows. We give out candy to the children who came trick or treating, which is a misnomer as there aren't any tricks performed if you don't have candy. It is just small children dressing up in costumes and going to houses that have halloween lanterns out to ask for sweets. It isn't a big celebration, and pretty much only for the kids.

I think Halloween isn't such a big thing here because there's All Saints Day (1st November), Bonfire Night (5th November) and Rememberance Day (11th November) all in quick succession, with Rememberance Sunday after that, and all the shops have started their Christmas displays by mid-October - or mid-August this year, which was ridiculous!

Isn't that where a 'money-less' Society would come from? Eventually money will have little if any value -- so bartering comes to be a way of life. " I'll be willing to mow your lawn in exchange for your being willing to fix my leaky faucet because you have the plumbing knowledge that I don't have." Or my chickens are laying pretty good so I'll exchange eggs for veggies from your garden -- it would be really nice if the person who's garden is doing Great to volunteer veggies to the neighbor and the neighbor would volunteer some of her chicken eggs in payment for the veggies.

If you're a Star Trek person -- there's an old episode based on a society where people who reach the age of 60 turn themselves in to the government. They are euphenized because after That they were developing ailments and were no longer considered 'cost efficient' / able to work and therefore not profitable to Society.

Any way you look at it, the accounting doesn't add up in order for the "earners" to be able to continue to "fund" the ever increasing number of "non-earners" and bonafide retirees. More emphasis is required on private savings and personal accountability. Get more people earning for themselves and saving for their own retirement, then the burden on taxpayer funded "entitlement programs" will taper off over time. However we may have reached a point of no return. Citizens should demand that "entitlement programs" be part of the budget rather than sitting out there on an island in "unfunded" territory.

Ninety-nine months of welfare reminds me of a song they used to sing on the bus trips back home from the away games...

My biggest concern is the burden on young wage earners and how the unfunded liabilities racked up by previous political generations will affect their pocket books and "quality of life"...

Income potential shouldn't matter, just that he is not slothful and is prepared to work which any Christian should be.

The welfare system on both sides of the Atlantic is completely broken. If I divorced my husband and we lived togather unmarried we'd be substantially better off, as disabled support would assist me and pay for things that we currently cover, including half my bills. It's pressure we really don't need....

I think Proverbs 31 reinforces the roles of the "help meet" Genesis 2:18. That is, the man is the spiritual leader, and the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 sets out to provide for him so that he can carry out his duty in the public square. They both work together to glorify God.

Are traditional gender roles in marriage bibilcal?
    by Innerfire89
Now the way I see it is that the husband goes out and works while the wife takes care of things at home.
I see Titus 2:5 that older women are supposed to train the younger to be busy at home. But Proverbs paints a different piccutre so it seems.

What is it that I'm not understanding here? I'm I right to think that a wife should stay at home while the husband works? In a lot of ways it makes since to me. It seems like it would damage the love/submit system by giving the wife the say so over the family because she the bread winner. And I think cchildren need more time with their mother, especially in the early years and obviously if she's going to breast feed.

    So, what are your thoughts?...

  • The Immutability of God
    William
A natural implication of God’s aseity is his immutability. At first blush this immutability seems to have little support in Scripture. For there God is seen as standing in the most vital association with the world. In the beginning he created heaven and earth and so moved from not creating to creating. And from that beginning he is, as it were, a coparticipant in the life of the world and especially of his people Israel. He comes and goes, reveals and conceals himself. He averts his face [in wrath] and turns it back to us in grace. He repents (Gen. 6:6; 1 Sam. 15:11; Amos 7:3, 6; Joel 2:13; Jon. 3:9; 4:2) and changes plans (Exod. 32:10–14; Jon. 3:10). He becomes angry (Num. 11:1, 10; Ps. 106:40; Zech. 10:3) and sets aside his anger (Deut. 13:17; 2 Chron. 12:12; 30:8; Jer. 18:8, 10; 26:3, 19; 36:3). His attitude toward the pious is one thing, his disposition to the ungodly another (Prov. 11:20; 12:22). With the pure he is pure; with the crooked he shows himself a shrewd opponent 12...

  • Glorious Reflection
    NetChaplain
The “Last Adam” has brought all who belong to Him now into this common place of blessing. We all with open, or unveiled, face (for this is the true force of it) behold as in a glass the glory of the Lord. A Christian, all the time he is here below, is, as far as the work of the Lord Jesus is concerned, one entitled to “draw near” (Jam 4:8) to the Father, to look into the glory, and to be there himself; the veil is gone. Christ without the veil. There was a veil but it is rent. Now there is none—none on the heart of the believer, none on the face of the Lord Jesus or on ours; it is completely gone. “We all, with open face beholding as in a glass (Word of God, esp. the Gospel of Christ, which is how we know how we are to look—NC) the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2Co 3:18).
