Christforums

.... an orthodox (true and correct when contrasted with Liberal theology) Protestant forum whose members espouse the Apostolic doctrines in the Biblical theologies set forth by Augustine, Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin and John Knox etc. We do not "argue" with nor do we solicit the membership of people who espouse secular or cultic ideologies. We believe that our conversations are to be faith building and posts that advance heretical or apostate thinking will be immediately deleted and the poster permanently banned from the forum. This is a Christian Protestant community for people to explore the traditional theologies of Classical Protestantism.

Christian Fellowship

John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

new California Bill is anti christian

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

there is a new california bill that democrats passed, that made a christian ministry cancel it's conference in LA this week:

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/christian-ministry-forced-to-cancel-la-conference-due-to-bill-banning-bibli

(the bill hasn't been passed, yet)

Summit Ministries, which had planned a 12-day student training conference at Biola University outside Los Angeles, decided to play it safe, choosing to cancel the event because of concerns that California will forbid some of what it teaches.

many analysts suspect that the state’s controversial legislation will effectively end up banning any Christian teaching – whether written or spoken – which suggests that homosexuality and transgenderism are disordered in any way.

Political activists there need to alert mosques in the state that this bill would apply to their faith and practice as well. See if the fear of ticking off Muslims sobers the legislature of California. Since they seem to imagine they can somehow pass a bill that can be implied to target Christianity only.

that would be a surprising shock to them.

Within the bill itself:

* “Sexual orientation change efforts” means any practices that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation. This includes efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex. "

* (q) California has a compelling interest in protecting the physical and psychological well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.

* (r) California has a compelling interest in protecting consumers from false and deceptive practices that claim to change sexual orientation and in protecting consumers against exposure to serious harm caused by sexual orientation change efforts.

So preaching against homosexuality or any other sexual identity will be unlawful. Scripture definitely opposes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender practices and identities.

The bill passed the state assembly but needs to pass the state senate to become law. From what I've read so far about this it's an invitation to lawsuits of unconstitutionality. But it does demonstrate how far the attack on Christianity has come.

John 15:18  If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
John 15:19  If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Technically speaking, no. Only if you are charging for the preaching, it only applies to the sale of goods or services. Now there is a good argument that it would make preaching at a ticketed conference unlawful with regard to preaching homosexuality etc. as a sin.

what if your church has a bookstore?  Then it becomes blurred.  Or what if your church has a coffee shop or sells sermon CD's?

Then, according to the bill, you would not be allowed to sell those items. My argument is that it would also force you to stop selling the Bible.

so essentially all church functions would stop.  You could not have a BBQ because that is buying and selling of hotdogs.  You could not have a concert, because of the selling of CD's, you could not have a camp because you are buying and selling food again.

No. Only if those items have anti-homosexual content, or if the preaching for that day contained it. We need to be careful when we attack this bill by not overreacting with hyperbole so we are actually taken seriously about the real ramifications it will have.

who is using hyperbole?  I think your being very positive toward this negative law.  It is not far down the road, that one can say very easily that the preaching last week with the hot dog's today, are now considered an illegal selling of anti homosexual propaganda.

Definitely not... https://reformedtruths.wordpress.com/2018/04/25/banning-the-bible/

What I am saying is we need to attack what is actually there or they will not take us seriously.

Everything I have said could come to pass granted a bill like this passes.  You mention that some of what I say is not in the Bill, but can you give examples?
