John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Schools ditching BC/AD for fears of upsetting non-christians

Recommended Posts

The persecutions against Christians continue, I am not sure if this is a world wide issue or one just in the UK, it's certainly bothers me...

Schools across the country have stopped using the terms BC and AD in religious education lessons for fear of offending non-Christians.

The traditional terms BC, Before Christ, and AD, Anno Domini, are being ditched for BCE – Before Common Era, and CE – Common Era.

The new terms still denote the periods before and after the birth of Christ. Local authority committees drawing up religious education syllabuses say the old terms may upset minorities or non-believers. But critics blasted the move as a ‘capitulation to political correctness’. The syllabus for schools in East Sussex, for example, reads: ‘BCE and CE are now used in order to show sensitivity to those who are not Christians.’

Chris McGovern, the chairman of the Campaign for Real Education, said: removing BC and AD ‘is a capitulation to political correctness’.

Our education system seems to be targeting our most vulnerable members in society, I have never in my life encountered a person of any faith that had been or is currently offended by the Gregorian calendar..

I wish I could state that this is fake news, unfortunately it's not & clearly demonstrates the madness which is political correctness,.. A huge blow for our faith and also many years of culture.. To just rewrite history.

I really don't understand this. If someone's going to be offended by measuring time from the birth of Christ, it doesn't matter whether you call it AD or CE, it is the number that is offensive.

Has anyone told the people who come up with this that the Jewish and Muslim calenders have completely different numbers and a different year length? The Jewish calendar says we're in AM 5778 and the Hijri calendar says we're in 1439 AH.

Read the good into it. It's a good lesson for children to see all this controversy. From the mideast, Europe, United States, on and on, Jesus has become the center of controversy. You can peak people's curiosity with any religious discussion. Yoga, hindu, Buddhist, Islam, but mention Christ, and people react. They either are a fellow Christian that will engage you, or you bring out a venom, silence, or stop I don't want to hear it most of the time. The world wants to destroy Christianity like no other belief. To me proof, my God is true and alive. He is not a statue that's charming to desires. He is not a myth. I don't hate our react to Santa clause, Easter bunny, or the great pumpkin. People react to what really exist.
