John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Is Masturbation a sin that slowly leads to hell?

Recommended Posts

So, I listened to it and thought it had too strong a works based salvation theme to it. It seemed to be saying "If I live a holy life and get all my sins under control by the power of my will, then I will be worthy of admission into heaven. If I do not do as God commands, and fall into sin instead, then God will reject me because of my sinful acts."

The tragic flaw in this thinking is that if my sin disqualifies us from Heaven, then all of us are already disqualified and continue to earn disqualifications on a daily basis. "None is righteous, no not one" are more than words ... that is reality. Of course we have no right to abandon our bodies to licentiousness. If that is your desire, then you have a bigger issue of the heart to deal with than whatever petty sin you are struggling with. You have a cold, dead heart of stone and are an enemy of God.

If you have a new heart, a heart of flesh, a living heart, then God's Laws will be written on it and you will desire to do what pleases God, not to avoid hell, but BECAUSE it pleases God. From that perspective, fear is no longer the motivation. Love is the motivation. Failure upsets US and is forgiven by God, so we can approach his throne in repentence and find grace.

I did not walk away from that recording with that truth as the core message, so I fear that it missed the mark.

Maybe to clarify what masterbation is -- a male or female doing self-stimulation to come to organsm. I"ve had two sons -- when they were babies it was interesting to observe as they discovered their 'play toy'. In the church nursery, when changing diapers of boys -- the nursery worker would attempt to keep their hands away from their penis. But babies love to play with anything / everything. And it Is harder to put a diaper back On they they are holding on to their 'play toy'.

Pre-teens need parents to help guide them into and through puberty / a healthy attitude / respect for their bodies. Porn is easy to access on computers -- and it's considered to be better than including another person in your sexual activities.

The complaint about it being so tiring?! That's why couple's have sex at night -- it's a great release from stress during the day and they are exhausted after wards and fall asleep. And that's Probably why a couple is to have their own partner Forever. Because it Is 'addictive' -- once a person's body has had that experience, your body knows it feels really good and wants to keep having that feel-good feeling. So -- getting married -- a man / woman can be there for each other's sexual needs.

And that can Also be why sex is Not a good idea Before marriage -- for dating or engaged couples -- because their bodies Want sex and people Can become sexually active to simply take care of their 'needs'. And some people simply want the excitement Of masterbation and don't want a partner.

When guys self-stimulate during the day -- of course they're going to be feeling tired all the time. And there are people who Do get addicted to sex. The chemical high it produces.

It Is 'God-given' -- With God's guidelines for using it.

Years ago there was a very happily married man who's wife was killed in a car wreck. They were like two peas in a pod. He'd shared with his pastor who shared with a married class with permission -- that he had to move away -- Everywhere he went he could see his wife -- and they did have a very warm private life. After a while - as he'd be meeting with the pastor -- he said he had to pray to God to relieve him of his desire for sex. He'd gotten a job in another city with the same company and started his new life -- and after a number of years found another wife. He'd been concerned that he wouldn't be able to 'be a man' again -- but everything was just fine.

So -- self-stimulation -- not a wise idea -- but it won't bring on blindness -- unless a person already has a vision problem. It's just that all those years ago -- people took sex Much more seriously and had more respect for their bodies. Self-control is not really Popular -- but it Can be done.

He thought me some thing I should of known a long time ago.

To those who would preach condemnation. I will not say the right or the wrong, but we are a work in progress and we have a promise. Paul said

For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will performb it until the day of Jesus Christ Php 1:5-6

How ever there is Zoloft. It works

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instrumentsb of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Ro 6:12-15

Basically masturbation in and of itself may not be wrong, but it can come to be a disease out of control taking one to many temptation and bad habits. One who goes down this road will be driven by guilt hating ones self for weakness praying to God yet still falling all the time. This is war of mind and flesh,. We say to God why won't deliver me. I have a friend who one day at the doctors was given Zoloft for another problem. He is like a free man now. God works in strange way
