Recommended Posts

As part of the spiritual armor outfitting we are provided with in the 6th chapter of Ephesians is the shield of faith. In ancient times most shields were made of leather not metal. Metal was not as common for many things and metal shields were very heavy. To help in battles the shields were heavily anointed with oil. This assisted in keeping the swords and arrows of the enemy from getting a "bite" or purchase on the surface.

Isaiah 21:5 KJVS

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

The anointing of our spiritual warfare is the wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit keeping the enemy from having any advantage over believers. We take the shield of faith "above all"

Ephesians 6:16 KJVS

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Arrows inliteral clouds came down from above in those ancient battles. Not from straight ahead. Thats why the admonition of "above all".
