Christian Fellowship

John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

$5 Fridays

Recommended Posts

$5 Fridays from Dr. R C Sproul (my favorite theologian/pastor) and his teaching ministry, Ligonier Ministries. This is just a reminder for those of you who already know about it, and an encouragement for those of you who don't to check it out. Go here.

Also, if you've never heard, or heard of, Dr. Sproul, he has a daily radio broadcast called Renewing Your Mind that you can listen to online here if you'd like to (+ a library of former broadcasts is also available there if you have a particular subject or book of the Bible that you're interested in learning more about).

Yours in Christ,

David

I like RC as well. I've read several of his books. He's a smart guy and has a lot to offer the thinking person with respect to matters of faith, history, and apologetics.
