John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

That reminds of another recent poll where Republicans were asked if the supported bombing Agrabah. 57% of responders said they were not sure, 30% said they supported bombing it. 13% opposed it. Only 13% of Republicans opposed bombing a fictitious city. 19% of Democrats said they would support bombing Agrabah, and 36% said they oppose it.

 

See, most Democrats aren't opposed to senseless war.
