    Thinking About Sins

If something brings you to your knees... that's the best position for you to be in as in that place you can only look up, and God is right there waiting for you to start talking with Him. Sin does lower us, which is a good thing. When we are broken, hurt, sinning and ashamed... that's when God is there to hold us up and help us stand. If we stand for Him, He will support us and before we know it, His reality is closer to our own, and it becomes a bit easier to avoid that which we formerly couldn't avoid.

    Angel Suicide?

It happens all the time, actually. Power absolutely corrupts and when someone is given a lot of power and thinks he can handle more, but can't, trouble begins. Lucifer was too stubborn to admit he was wrong, and so he persisted in the attempt to gain even more power. Meanwhile, his cronies tried everything they could to also achieve the status that Lucifer enjoyed... being the most beautiful of all the angels... it is likely that they were all trying to get on his best side, whatever that might be, so one of them could sit at Lucifer's right hand when he came into his 'glory'. In other words, it's highly likely that Lucifer knew exactly what would happen, but was too stuck on himself and too stubborn to admit it could happen that way... while his little minions were simply deceived... kind of like the way Adam and Eve were deceived by the serpent. Do I have Bible verses to back up this theory? No. It's only my opinion, but it's somewhat logical, don't you think? After all, how many of us silly humans have tried and failed to become powerful, only to 'fall' into the depths of despair, drug abuse, alcoholism, even suicide? Like I said, it happens all the time.

    Organ Donation Question

The only issue I can think of AGAINST organ donation is this: Each person's DNA is different enough to cause the organ recipient to be required to take immune suppressing drugs for the rest of his or her life to prevent the organ from getting destroyed by the new body. This tells me that God designed each of us to not be able to give or take parts from another person. Granted, this can be overcome, but at what cost? The recipient takes the drugs, his immunity is permanently lowered, he gets the flu and can't recover without hospitalization. The tiniest virus or harmful bacterium could kill said person, when that same virus or bacterium might just make the rest of us sick for a day or two. If the common cold can kill you, something is definitely wrong. So the person on the anti-rejection drugs has to take other drugs to combat the 'bugs' of this world, and quite often, one drug leads to another and before you know what hit you, you're taking 20 different pills a day... many of them for the rest of your life. Ugh. How depressing that thought is.

    Tattoos

Because the Bible speaks out against tattooing and piercing, when I became a Christian I stopped wearing pierced earrings and let the holes close up. I still have the scars on my ears as a reminder but there are no holes in my ears except the ones that God put there Himself. I also have two tattoos, that I got when I was 21 but never got any more because I became born again when I was 23. I turned it all over to the Lord and I know He's forgiven me, so all is well. I will not get more tattoos, nor will I ever again pierce my ears. I've seen cases where Christians have decided to go out and get tattooed for whatever reason, and to me, that's a sin and it's not even something that I want to do in any way, shape or form, but I do know that tattoos can be addicting, which is why so many people have multiple "ink" on their bodies.

    Does Technology Affect Christianity

I have never heard of apps that you can revise like that. That's interesting. What is the point of reading the Bible on your tablet or computer if you have the capability to rewrite it anyway you feel like? Why not just get out your word processing software and write your own version and be done with it? I'm being facetious, of course, but that seems more logical than rewriting a version of the Bible to suit yourself. You could just write the "Word of Bob" or whatever.... sell it on Amazon, get rich and famous... etc. The problem is, there are too many people out there who can't allow us to have the Word of God, because it disagrees with what they believe. So, we are the ones who get hurt, while they get their own way, and the rest of the world gets more confused trying to figure out which version is which. It's ridiculous.

    Fashion Statements

I don't actually see a lot of those types of shirts where I come from, but if I can digress a bit, Hollywood tends to push them in their TV shows and movies, probably hoping that the styles will catch on in the general population. One thing I've noticed with that sort of media, is that Christian tee shirts are completely lacking. Since we are never positively represented in movies or television, I see no reason for the other agenda to be followed so closely either. Therefore, I tend to ignore shows that display fashion propaganda, which leaves me with pretty much just "blasts from the past" to watch... which I don't mind since I think TV died around 1994 anyway. The leftist uniform is something you see mostly on the younger set, because they are pretty much targeted by the propaganda police. It's sad, but unfortunately, not unprecedented. The young have always sought out their own styles and behaviors, and lately, the media has pounced on that.
  7. I have no problem with respecting other people's religious beliefs, but what I take issue with is lack of respect for mine. I hate it when people tell me to stop talking about religion or faith, and then they turn right around and continue haranguing people with their own beliefs. It's wrong to expect others to fall into line and give respect to someone who won't give it back in turn. I like what Smithee said about guiding people to the truth while still loving and respecting those people. We don't have to respect the religion itself, but respecting the person is part of what God expects from us as His children.

    Men who won't marry

When the relationship is right, you know it almost immediately. My parents knew each other exactly six weeks before they were married. They were introduced to each other through a mutual friend and have been together as man and wife for almost 54 years now. I met my husband on an online dating site and after our first date I was totally convinced that we weren't right for each other, and I was gravely disappointed, as I was looking for a husband at the time. Since I was 41 years old, I can't imagine what else I would be looking for. But God told me to hang in there, and this man became my very best friend and we were married a year and 4 months later. That was five years ago and our relationship is stronger than ever. If this man isn't planning to get married but the woman wants marriage, then they aren't compatible... simple as that. They should not be together because they aren't on the same page. They probably aren't even reading the same book. If the man is truly a Christian as he claims, then he would not have asked her to move in with him. Instead, he would have asked her to marry him. Yup, she needs to move on, because he is NOT a Christian, not even close, and he has NO respect for her as a woman of God. Christians are known by their actions, not their words, so claiming to be one thing and doing an entirely different thing... that tells us the truth every time.

I am convinced I may be reprobate...

Hi Aedaz! Good to meet you! Sometimes I think it's more natural for us humans to sin than to not. I sin, all the time. We all do. Every other thought running through our brains could be classified as a sin. Nobody can totally and completely keep the 10 commandments, and it's only 10!!! Adam and Eve couldn't keep just one commandment, so how are we expected to keep as many as 10? Truth is, Jesus KNOWS we can't NOT sin. He knows that. That's why He died on the cross for our sins, because otherwise, none of us would ever make it to Heaven and God doesn't want Heaven to be empty. The fact that you are questioning is a good thing, because from questions come answers. The answers never come all at once, but one at a time, when we need them the most. We are sinners, plain and simple. Once we understand that, it sort of helps us to relax a little bit and realize that, hey, God doesn't expect me to be His clone. He knows I can't do that, He knows I will fall on my face every single time. Christians who tell us that they have 'died' to sin are only kidding themselves... they haven't lost the ability to sin and they know it. Still, it sounds great to say it to a seeking person. Christians are not dead to sin. Nope. None of us are and none of us ever have been or ever will be. Let's just get our minds set on that and things become easier to deal with. What Christians really are, are sinners saved by Grace. That means the freely given mercy of God, Who loves us beyond belief and wants as many of us as possible to live with Him in Heaven. Christianity is not a religion. It's not a set of strictly kept rules. It is a close, personal relationship with Jesus. That is something that is just as flexible as any other relationship we humans have. You may have one or two very close friends and several so-so friends who come and go. That is kind of how we should think of our relationship with Christ...how do we make THIS relationship worth keeping? How do we make it stronger and healthier? Truthfully, Jesus doesn't move away from us. We move away from Him, and what you've described sounds pretty much like a story any and all of us could share. My advice... Hang in there. Reach out your hand because Jesus isn't very far away. Nope, not far at all. Hugs! :)

    Healing Hands?

Oh, you are awesome! I didn't even think of that. I was the only one there who had the REAL Spirit Guide! False spirits are everywhere and that whole mess just creeps me out when people start talking about their 'guides' and 'angels' when the reality for those people is often much darker than they realize. Sure, demonic spirits can make things seem wonderful, at least for a while, but when you start giving them all the credit for the good things happening in your life, that's exactly what they want. They don't want us to give the credit to God, where it belongs.

    Divorce

These are wise words. We definitely need to consider that all important step of marriage to be something sacred and holy, not throwaway. Jumping right into marriage without serious consideration, is a horrible idea for a couple considering that next step. If your marriage isn't working out, then there are options. Christian counseling is one such course of action. The idea is to do whatever you can with divorce being a final and last option. I wouldn't advise anyone to remain in an abusing relationship, of course, but otherwise, there are ways to make it work if the couple works at it hard enough.

    Healing Hands?

You are not alone in your feelings about such churches. A lot of it is show to build up emotion, and it takes a strong-minded person to think beyond the emotion and realize just how creepy some of that stuff really is. It's like snake charmers who brag that they let their two year old toddlers handle rattle snakes and such... you just don't want to mess with some of that dangerous nonsense. I was working as a vendor in an outdoor marketplace last summer and this lady who apparently is into witchcraft came up to several of us vendors and "read" our spirit guides. She walked behind each of us in a row and told each person who their spirit guide was... until she got to me, that is. Now this woman didn't know me from Eve, but she couldn't see my spirit guide and she just skipped right over me and went on to the others. I was relieved and felt blessed that the Lord was with me that day, making it impossible for the demonic spirits to get near me. My suggestion for you is that you avoid places where you feel uncomfortable, even if you have friends who invite you. Just politely refuse and go to the churches where you do feel right. You are not too jaded to feel God's presence. If He is there in the room, you'll feel Him. So, if you're in a church where you really don't feel the presence of God... be grateful for two feet to run, not walk, out the door and never look back.

    Is it 10% or 15%?

This thread is amazing and it sort of verifies what I have been thinking over the years regarding tithing. Giving of yourself, your time, effort and talents, are also important, lest we forget that. Basically, what I'm saying is that there is more to tithing than just giving MONEY. We all have a lot to give in God's house, to His people, and we should be grateful and willing givers of ourselves, our time and our money, if we happen to have some. My husband and I aren't rich by any means, but we have exactly what we need, and a little left over each month, so we consider ourselves greatly blessed with the riches of God's grace.

    Do you believe in spanking?

Thanks for the information, atpollard. I didn't know this stuff, though I did have an idea that spanking was against the rules in those cases. I'm wondering though... do foster parents sometimes adopt the kids they help raise? In a case like adoption, would the parents then be allowed to spank the child if they deemed it necessary? Or do former foster parents have to continue using the old rules regarding that particular child? Perhaps by that time, both the parents and the child would be used to the "currency" approach and maybe that is the thing that works best for the older child who has been in the system for some time.

    Do you believe in spanking?

I definitely believe in spanking and in consistency as well. Both parents have to be in agreement on the subject of "crime and punishment" in the household. If one parent is for spanking and the other is against it, trouble can arise because the child learns these things early on and will play one parent off the other as easily as strumming a guitar. Plus, the parents have to be in agreement as to what deserves a punishment and what doesn't, as well as what form the punishment should take. Some children are more stubborn than others, and often taking away things that they want really bad is the best way to get through to them. Ban television for a week, or take away the laptop or phone... things like that are addictive to most anyone, but especially to children.
