    Which Laws Apply?

Hello Faber, answering your question, since you are probably not a Jew, there is no point in wanting to be circumcised. But the spiritual meaning of the Sabbath came before Judaism, as I said before, it was established in creation. So the answer is, living closer to Jesus FOR ME means trying to do the things He did that has spiritual value for everyone, and the Sabbath is included in this category, in my comprehension of the scriptures, despite being one of the the menor questions (it's much more difficult to love your neighbor as Jesus did, for example). I am very sorry for the experience you had with these brothers. I am convinced that when we are united by the total surrender of our lives to Jesus, it is not so good to stuck in a debate like this (regarding things that are not essencial to be a born again christian), because they tend to separate us. Sometimes, we run the risk of losing sight of the most important question, which is the love we have to share in Christ, as brothers and sisters. Also, when Jesus returns, we will be united as his bride, by the God's mercy. Let's remember what Jesus taught the disciplines in Mark 9: 38-42: "Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us 38“Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” 39“Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40for whoever is not against us is for us. 41Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. 42“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea." And Paul in I Cor. 1:10 and II Timothy 2:24 "10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,a in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought." " 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful."

    Which Laws Apply?

Hello Willian, I belonged to the Brazilian Presbyterian Church (Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil). They also follow the Westminster Confession of Faith but the point I mentioned is not what is written there, but what I was led to believe regarding my experience. I was raised discussing the Bible in this particular presbyterian context that used to emphasize that the Old Testament law no longer matters. Anyway, today I would not totally agree with this point of confession either, I rather believe that some things in the church have changed because of historical factors as religious and culture syncretism in the early church. But remembering that I also believe that keep the sabbath is not a recquirement to achieve salvation, but it seems better to me to keep the Sabbath as God ordained, according to the scriptures, it if it is possible.

    Which Laws Apply?

Dear Faber, I think we all agree that our salvation in ONLY through faith in Jesus, and that it leads to repentance and completely submission to his will. It's just not possible to achieve salvation through works. I, personally, just want to live as much as possible as my Savior, and it is a fact that he kept the sabbath, but he put it in another level of understanding: the sabbath was created to men, and not men to the sabbath. Also He told us that the law would not pass until the end of the world (mt 5), and that the appearance of morality does not matter, but the true intention of our hearts, in order to please God and love our neighbor. As long the 7th day was separated by God before the first covenant was made with Abraham and before the law was given to Moses, I firmly believe that it's not even a matter of observing the law, but it has a meaning to God as an act of praise, if your heart is sincere while doing it. I was raised in Presbyterian church and I used to think that the sabbath dind't matter to God, and also that the bible does not contradict itself. But as I have been reading the Bible over and over, I suddenly struggled with one bible passage in particular, Isaiah 56: “Don’t let foreigners who commit themselves to the Lord say, ‘The Lord will never let me be part of his people.’ And don’t let the eunuchs say, ‘I’m a dried-up tree with no children and no future.’ 4 For this is what the Lord says: I will bless those eunuchs who keep my Sabbath days holy and who choose to do what pleases me and commit their lives to me. 5 I will give them—within the walls of my house— a memorial and a name far greater than sons and daughters could give. For the name I give them is an everlasting one. It will never disappear! 6 “I will also bless the foreigners who commit themselves to the Lord, who serve him and love his name, who worship him and do not desecrate the Sabbath day of rest, and who hold fast to my covenant. 7 I will bring them to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in my house of prayer. I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations." So, 1. God almighty said that sabbath has some value to the foreigners who are not circumcised. And 2. Jesus didn't bring us to his holy mountain of Jerusalem yet, it is a prophecy that will occur when He returns. Then back to Genesis 2: "1 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. 2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested[a] from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation." and Mathew 5: "17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. 20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!" If the Word of God shall never pass and it does not contradict itself, so every little thing he said is important and shows us the nature of His character. But it's clear that we don't have to convert to judaism, circumcise all our man and keep the law to achieve salvation, that's impossible because we never ever could fulfill it all and also God doe not require it from us. Let the jews continue being jews, and also continue with the circumcision. What he have to do is accept Jesus as our savior, and as children of God, we have to search for holiness, even though we can't achieve this level yet, asking for God's mercy upon us until the second coming ("Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."Mt 5:48). Therefore, if you have surrendered to Christ and believe like me that keeping the sabbath is important to God, regarding the scriptures, why not trying to do that? But if you are firmly convinced that it doesn't have any importance, please continue doing what you are doing to glorify God with sincere heart. I do respect the different comprehensions of the scriptures and I don't expect to convince anybody. Finally, let us all, the children of God, return only to his word, and not to man's doctrines, without judging our brothers - "Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand. One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone." (Rm 14: 4-6) God bless you all!

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ

Wow, I had never heard about this cult before! I just read on wikipedia about them, and there it says they are considered a terrorist organization. How does this woman dare to call herself the incarnation of Jesus and still manage to deceive so many people? It's unbelievable! Thank you Winken and David Lee for warning me about it.

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ

Thank you Faber for the job link suggestion. What a blessing for you and me to have our familys with us, they are the best support ever and one of the biggest reasons for life, I believe! But it's so sad to hear that you cannot talk about Jesus with your students. It's true that we can't spread the gospel in public places, according to the chinese laws, but maybe, we could do that in non public environments if we have the opportunity. Today I watched one video about the underground chinese churches that are really on fire for Christ, growing a lot even with the danger of being caught by the government (at least, it's what the video shows). Let's pray for their protection and constantly ask God for whom he wants us to spread the gospel with. I am sure that He has sent us to China to fulfill his will. Let us praise his name wherever we are, until every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, the God of all nations!

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ

You were very close to Huangdao, if you consider the average distance between chinese cities. How was your experience to live here as a christian? And yes, I could teach Portuguese as I have a BA in Portuguese Literature and Linguistics and an MA in humanities (music education). Do you know any job opportunities?

    Seeing & Hearing an Angel

Thank you Theophilus, that is very encouraging to know that. And I also guess that beyond my ability to speak English, the Word of God is perfect and soon will unite all the nations and cultures under the power of the one who is the Word! May God bless you!

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ

Hey Faber, that is good to know your family is here. Which city do you live? I am in Huangdao (Qingdao- Shandong). Here there is a Christian Fellowship Church for foreigners but it is very far (I almost have to travel to attend it), and also a church of African students who speak English, which is closer to my home. You just can not choose your denomination, because there are only this two options nearby, but to be honest, I even liked that, so everyone is "just" Christian. = )

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ

Thank you, dear brothers in Christ. I am glad to find something good on the internet these days! = P Actually my family and I were praying not to come here...lol... but we asked God to show his will and my husband was requested to work here. So, we are here since August and, for now, I understood that we can maintain a free dialogue about faith and religion, but we are not expected to open a church and invite the chinese to join in it, that would be illegal. Nowadays, there are plenty of underground churches that are in an illegal situation, because they were not allowed to be opened by the authorities and they also do not pay taxes. It seems that the few government-certified christian churches, just as the budhist and shaolin temples, must have leaders appointed by the government and they do pay very high taxes. I heard that also the citizens must pay a high fee each time they go to a church service. **All this information I just got from a conversation with a christian chinese that I met, I do not know if all of it is precisely correct, but it can gives you an idea of how things work in this nation. I also have not gone to any underground church yet, because they only speak Chinese (at least here in Huangdao) and I still can't speak it.

    Which Laws Apply?

Willian, regardind to what you wrote "we are called to imitate Christ and to live as people who seek to please the living God" > I think that's exactly why we should obbey most of the moral law we can, to please God and to imitate Christ. He was a Jew and because of that he accomplished all the law. What do we have to do? I am sure that we are under the Christ' s Grace and that we are saved only by faith in him. But the point is that he told us to keep obbeying his commandments and not to commit sins anymore (Matthew 5:16-48, John 8:3-11, Isaiah 56:1-7). Therefore, I am sure that the moral law (all the 10 commandments) in the old testament is worth to keep it, and obviously all the Jesus's commandments that we find in all the new testament. If we just focus on the teachings about Grace, we run the risk of relativizing every moral aspects of the word of God, like many who accept homosexuality, immoral behaviour, necromancy, and the list goes on, based just on the doctrine of Christ's Grace and Love (as I see in many chuches, including one that once I was part of it). It is a fact that the bible teaches that if you remain in sin you will inherit death (Rm 6:23, I Co 6:9-10, Revelation 21:7-8). Nowadays I am part of a jewish messianic congregation in Brazil, but as I am currently living in China, I am going to the only church that offers service in English (it's a Christian Fellowship Metting without denomination). And I still believe that any theologian or church have the truth (including the jewish messianic movement), only Jesus has the Truth and he promised to teach us through the Holy Spirit! We have to ask directly to him how we must live and find the answers in the Bible. ***I know you all do that, but I think that is important to reafirm the truth, because sometimes we focus on human dogmas. He is the Way, the Word and the Sword of the Spirit that we must wield every day (Psalm 149, John 1:1, Ephesian 6:17). Let's keep up the good work, studying his word and serving God until the day of the Lord! Maranata!

    Seeing & Hearing an Angel

I myself have never seen an angel, despite the fact I always ask God to show me what He wants me to see, in order to glorify and testify his name. But, I believe that some people actually can see angels, demons and visions that either can be from God or not. So, if someone can see any creature, including an angel or light spirit, you HAVE to test this spirit by asking him if he believes that Jesus is the Son of God and if he believes that Jesus came in flesh to save the world, according to the Bible ( I John 4:1-3), because a demon can appear as an angel of light to try to deceive us. Therefore, testing this creatures is the MOST important thing to do, no matter if this creature has wings or not. "Beloved, do not believe every spirit [speaking through a self-proclaimed prophet]; instead test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know andrecognize the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ has [actually] come in the flesh [as a man] is from God [God is its source]; 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus [acknowledging that He has come in the flesh, but would deny any of the Son’s true nature] is not of God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and is now already in the world." (I John 4: 1-3). *Sorry if I commit any English mistakes, I am a Brazilian trying to share some good news and to learn with you using my English knowledge = ). #Jesus is the only way. Keep up the good work until the day of the Lord! May God bless you all!
