    Troubled Teenagers

Thank you all for the kind words. She recently got baptized and I was excited about that. As some of you have said, it could be worse, she could be involved in crime or on drugs...i am thankful that this is not the case right now. I pray for the girl almost everyday, and I think part of it is that she is trying to figure out who she is as a person and how she fits into the world around her.

    Mormon

My grandmother on my mom's side of the family was once a Mormon and she got out of the religion because she thought it was crazy. I think there was something about the Latter Day Saints piece of it where they actually think of people as Gods. I take exception to the fundamentalists that think it is ok to have many wives, seems like twisted faith to me. I also read up on the compounds in Utah and some of the sick things that go on.

    Mormon

Hi William, could you explain what makes Mormanism a cult? I always thought it was a sector of Christian faith although I do not believe in some of its beliefs and practices. Is it because some within the church believe in polygamy or the "latter day saints" part of it? When I think of a cult, I think more of Scientology and such, have never really considered Mormons to be a cult group.

    Mormon

I was looking on the forum headers and did not see any specific section for Mormons? Was just curious why that is, am I not looking in the right place, or are there just not any Mormons on here. I would love to have discussions with some practicing Mormons so I can learn more about this sector.
  5. I was very involved in a Baptist Church for most of my young adulthood, and I think it is church in general that can be hard to get in the perverbial door. Churches are welcoming places and invite everyone in to praise God, bit just like other groups in life, it can be hard to work your way into a social group within the church. I do not think the Baptist Church itself is the problem because Christians want to be around other Christians, and church is more casual than it was half a century ago. It seems to me that Baptists are even more casual than other Christian groups, just from personal experience going to several different Christian churches in my life. As you attend church, you start to make friends with people and it is sometimes hard to let new people into your established group. Just like when you were in grade school. Keep working at it and eventually you will meet lasting friends.

    Blind Faith

Thanks for the videos links and responses. I am going to review them. I think that God teaches us all a little different based on what is going on in our lives and we need to listen to the lessons being taught and question things. The word of the Bible can be interpreted in many different ways based on what your understanding is of what you read. I think that it is good to question things and look for deeper meaning, not just act or think of what you read at its face value.

    Blind Faith

Yes, that is what I meant by that, do you believe it because it is written in the Bible without questioning it at all. I am interested in the Arminian distortion now as well because I have never heard of it before @William.

    Blind Faith

Do you believe in blind faith of what the Bible teaches you, or are you someone who questions or tries to research what is meant by certain passages in the bible. I know that there are those out there who take the written word at face value without questioning it at all. I lean more toward trying to get a deeper understanding and questioning certain things in the bible. There are obviously some things that are what they are and can't be changed, such as if you kill you will go to hell, but what about other topics on how you are supposed to live?

    The LGBT community.

I am not sure how true this is, but some scientists say there is a genetic reason for homosexuality. That there is a gene that determines if a person is going to be gay or not, along with cultural influences. If the science is true (again, I am not a scientist and so I am unsure how true this is) why would God create a gene that would make people prone to homosexual behavior?

    Soul Mates

I do not think there is such thing as a perfect marriage either. You and your spouse are bound to have at least some problems and arguments during your life together. It is a matter of working through your problems and remembering why you got married to begin with. Even the best relationships have turbulent times that must be overcome. It is interesting because of the sheer differences of men and women and the way they view the world. Thanks for clearing up the soul mated explanation.

    Soul Mates

I apologize if I am putting this topic in the wrong place, I looked around and could not find a better place for it. Is there anything in the bible that talks about people having soul mates here on Earth. I have read and heard a lot on the topic throughout my life and was wondering if there is any truth to it. If so, how do you know when you have met your soul mate in life? Does everyone find their soul mate?

    The LGBT community.

I understand what the Bible says about man and woman uniting for pro creation, but I can't subscribe to the idea that people who are in love with or attracted to the same sex should sustain from experiencing the joys of being together in a relationship. People are meant to be with other people, man and women were not created to be alone in this world. I support that gay community even though I am not personally gay because it takes an emmence amount of courage to admit who you really are inside. All things being equal, I am a Christian as well, but I think people should be truthful to who they are and be truthful with the world. I would not wish upon any gay person to have to live behind a lie, meaning pretend to be straight, just so they are looked at more morally in the eyes of the world because they are not being truthful to themselves and to God.

What is the significance of prayer?

I agree with @anupamas2. I use prayer as a way to have my private moment with God to figure out what he wants me to do with my future and my time here on Earth. I use it to seek clarity, ask for forgiveness for the things I should not have done, and to ask for the strength to forgive those who have wronged me. Prayer makes me feel like I have a personal connection with God and it is my time to thank him for the blessings he has brought to my life. I try to pray at least once a night.

    What can we improve upon?

I received an email that this forum is going to be closing down. That is sad,I like to read everything that you all post about with regards to religious views and scripture. Sometimes I do not think that I have much to contribute because some of the posts on here seem to say it all. I especially like that there is a prayer request section where people can create a thread and ask for other's prayers and good words, it really helps when you feel you have nowhere to turn. If this forum does stick around, I would like to see some more topics about what some scriptures in the bible mean. It would be also interesting to discuss Revelations and see what others view the end of the world like and what it all means in the bible.

    Troubled Teenagers

I have a teen daughter who is going through some life issues and I feel like I have hit a brick wall and so on thought I would seek out advice here. My daughter's dad and step mom are going through a divorce due to infidelity and he turned around and jumped into another woman's arms...and I am afraid, her bed right away. Not only did my daughter have to start dealing with the divorce, but now also having to deal with the other situation at hand. She has been acting out at school and at home and I can't seem to get through to her. She goes to youth group and church each week, but really only goes to be around her friends. I am really struggling with her and I do not know what to do. I could use some prayers right now as well as advice. Thanks.
