  • New member from UK here...

    Hello everyone,

Please excuse my grammar throughout my posts as its something I struggle with, my reasons for coming here is for wanting to gain better knowledge, understanding and for an all round better christian experience in my life. I am from England,UK and I have been christened as a child.. I was brought up going to an Anglican church with my mother as a child, at the time I did not have the heart nor was I ready for the spirituality for Christianity.. I guess I was just going to church as I was forced too.

I have a strong desire over the last couple of years to get myself back into faith.. I do not know where to start, life has not been so kind to me for the last few years a lot has happened, my father died of cancer & I had major personal issues with my mother,.. I have moved away and just live with my dog called Bliss,. After many years of mental health issues regarding anxiety & depression and and off and on battle with alcoholism I am slowly starting to get my life together again..

I am just starting to read the bible again & I am planning to start going to church again.. my issue is what denomination,, Orthodoxy interests me.. however my nearest parish is a bit too far away for me to travel, I could stick with my Anglican roots which is in walking distance or I could venture into the Pentecostal lifestyle where there is a church literally across the road, or I could just be a Christian and read the bible which would be easiest on My anxiety which is still stopping me from doing these things & is something I hope will allow me to do.

It would be good hearing from others, debating and discussing and for me to get a better understanding of the faith.

Hello Bliss, Glad to have you here :-)
I'M an Indian 15 year old boy. I can't understand what you're going through completely but could have an idea. But thank that God knows. I'M having problems with porn.

Actually I am not good in churches for I've never been to them much. But I go to an online church named Life Church and I love my church.
Hope you have a blessed time here :-)

Hi, welcome! :) That's good! Your bible is the best place to start. It will show you that we are all sinners heading for God's just wrath, but in His mercy He sent His Son to die for us. And we must repent from our sins and turn and place all our trust and faith in Jesus Christ alone. If you've done that, then you will receive the Holy Spirit who will help you understand your bible. Then armed with what the bible says is true, you can use it as a test to examine what a church is teaching. Be careful, there is a LOT of false teaching out there and a lot of false converts, that will try to throw you off. Will pray for you!

Glad you are here. I think by reading your Bible and seeking out fellow Christians, you are taking the right steps towards figuring things out. Be encouraged to talk to God about where he wants you regarding church or anything else. Know also, you are not alone on this walk, but alongside a loving father.

Hi Bliss, WELCOME TO CF :)

I'm sorry to hear about all of your struggles (although many times it's our "struggles" that help us see our great need for the Lord :)). Praying.

I think you are on the right path seeking out a church to be part of. God never intended that we should live the Christian life alone, and what a wonderful thing the fellowship of a loving body of believers can be, especially when we're going through rough patches.

I look forward to getting to know you better. See you out on the boards.

God bless you! (Numbers 6:24-26; Jude 24-25)

              --David

Here's a quote that puts a positive spin on why God allows us to suffer sometimes. This one is by missionary/author Elisabeth Elliot. I thought you might enjoy it :)

“Our vision is so limited that we can hardly imagine a love that does not show itself in protection from suffering. The love of God did not protect His own Son. He will not necessarily protect us - not from anything it takes to make us like His Son. A lot of hammering and chiseling and purifying by fire will have to go into the process.” ~Elisabeth Elliot

And here's another by preacher/theologian Charles Haddon Spurgeon, as well. Our "struggles" certainly help us understand our need for Christ to begin with, but they also help us to grow up in Him after He's saved us!
