    4 Chaplains Day

Since there didn't seem to be a thread on it, I thought I'd make one. In the middle of interfaith arguments and debates on politics in the press at the moment, the self-sacrifice of four chaplains in 1943 seems to be passing virtually unremarked in the media.

For those unfamiliar with it, four chaplains, one Methodist, one Catholic, one Jewish and one Reformed Church, were onboard the Dorchester troopship when it was torpedoed on 3rd February 1943. They aided others off the ship, tried to raise spirits during the evacuation, and gave their lifejackets to others to give them a better chance of survival, in doing so dooming themselves.

    Lest we forget.
Today is Four Chaplains Day: an occasion which looks back to the incredible courage of four men who, in the face of grave disaster, gave up their lives to save others. What is their story?
