    Nature is also God's word. And, while I wouldn' say it rises to the level of God's word,I believe earliest cultures around the world have stories about God, remnants of God's word remembered through the fog of time.

    In China, a couple millennia before Daoism and Confucianism, before the pantheon of gods, was the worship of the God of Heaven. Ancient Chinese pictographs represents God by a stick figure of a man with a single line across the top, the Chinese character for the number one. Wikipedia says the name means supreme god and sky deity in China's traditional religions. At a point he was identified as Tian, "Heaven", the "Universe", the "Great All". The chinese word for emperor is derived from the Chinese name for God.
